Redesigning A Gown!

So here is a dress a girl ordered online for her prom. Below is a photo of what this dress is supposed to actually look like:

Well, I must say it looks NOTHING like those photos at all, the purple flowers are just purple squares sewn on, the embroidery is crooked, and a completely different pattern, it's supposed to have purple sequins but it just has silver.

I'm going to fix this dress for this poor girl as best as I could, but I really wish she would have went local for her prom!

I started with picking out all of those horrible gathers and square shaped flowers.

So I hope people will see this and learn not to order anything online, unless you physically have tried it on. Also, I'm a dressmaker who will be more than happy to personalize your dress just for you, for the same $450.00 - $500.00.

The website I'm assuming she got this from is:
http://www.quinceaneradresses4u.com/Discount-quinceanera-dresses-bella-sera-quinceanera_c14.html

A review of this site shows a numerous amount of people being tricked by a photo, and receiving something completely different.

Halloween Costume!

Sara and I are creating a Blood Elf costume from the online computer game, World of Warcraft. This is the girl we are basing it off of.

4.5 hours to paint those shoulders believe it or not.

Of course we needed some pizza!

More photos of the costume to come!

Photos!

This is the sewing machine that I use!

My weekly schedule, that I "x" off as I go.

This is a time sheet for just one dress. I keep track of my work and how long it takes so I know how much to charge in the end.

Working notes for pattern drafting, there is more math in Fashion Design that you would think!

And some of the kitties I have lying around my work space.

Hand Sewing!

Today I experimented with hand sewing some jewels I ordered off of ebay. I really enjoy tedious work, so here are some samples I have been working on.

New Camera!

I got a new camera last week, and I have been testing it out! I took some shots of the rest of the dresses I will be creating this year. As well as my painting for Red Dress.
First is a Green Satin and Organza Dress, the bottom is white satin covered in green organza. Bust embellished with diamonds and sequins.

Satin printed dress, Solid blue areas will be embellished in diamonds and possibly sequins.

Yellow satin and organza dress, similar concept as green dress, but longer. Waistband embellished with diamonds and sequins. Bust is gathered.
My idea for red dress, satin, maybe with organza or taffeta. All red of course, bust embellished with beads and sequins, and opens up in a wide V shape and is laced with a thick red ribbon.

And here are some fun classroom panoramic views I have been playing with. Some of them are a bit mushed together, my camera has a setting that puts the 3 photos together. It must have been too many visual things to process.

And here is a shot of my boyfriend's dog over the thanksgivings weekend!

Things I'm starting to work on this year!

From the top, I start off with a sketch, trace it using tracing paper, then transfer it onto watercolor paper. I add color using watercolor pencils and then using a paint brush I bring the colors to life. I then allow it to dry and go over it with a black felt tip marker.

Some books I looked into to refresh myself with draping.
