Peach Gown, Draping!

Here is the bottom of the peach gown I'm working on. (Front)

(Back)

The fabric I'm using to drape with.

Ignoring the top half of the dress, these next photos all show draping. It's not sewn together yet, but this is an idea of what the dress is going to look like on the bottom.

Yellow Gown, continued!

So here is my beautiful model Melissa, trying on the gown so I can check the hem and mark where the straps go. I found out I need to take the waist band in under the bust.

Back, no straps yet, or zipper!

Took the waistband in, and it created some cute unplanned tucks in the dress.

Here is it on a dress form, after I fixed the waist band, hem is now marked and needs to be hemmed!

Closeup of the top.

I still need to hem, create a lining, make a petticoat for underneath the gown (She has one on in the picture, it makes the gown bigger on the bottom.) I need to add the gems, and attach the straps!

So far so good! :)

Yellow Gown

So here is the dress I've been working on lately!

Gathering I've done to the top.

Attached waistband.

Skirt portion finished, obviously not attached to top piece yet!

All I have left to do is attach the top to the bottom, create and attach a lining, create an insert to make it stand out more, sew on some gems to the waistband, and hem!

Redesigning A Gown!

So here is a dress a girl ordered online for her prom. Below is a photo of what this dress is supposed to actually look like:

Well, I must say it looks NOTHING like those photos at all, the purple flowers are just purple squares sewn on, the embroidery is crooked, and a completely different pattern, it's supposed to have purple sequins but it just has silver.

I'm going to fix this dress for this poor girl as best as I could, but I really wish she would have went local for her prom!

I started with picking out all of those horrible gathers and square shaped flowers.

So I hope people will see this and learn not to order anything online, unless you physically have tried it on. Also, I'm a dressmaker who will be more than happy to personalize your dress just for you, for the same $450.00 - $500.00.

The website I'm assuming she got this from is:
http://www.quinceaneradresses4u.com/Discount-quinceanera-dresses-bella-sera-quinceanera_c14.html

A review of this site shows a numerous amount of people being tricked by a photo, and receiving something completely different.

Halloween Costume!

Sara and I are creating a Blood Elf costume from the online computer game, World of Warcraft. This is the girl we are basing it off of.

4.5 hours to paint those shoulders believe it or not.

Of course we needed some pizza!

More photos of the costume to come!

Photos!

This is the sewing machine that I use!

My weekly schedule, that I "x" off as I go.

This is a time sheet for just one dress. I keep track of my work and how long it takes so I know how much to charge in the end.

Working notes for pattern drafting, there is more math in Fashion Design that you would think!

And some of the kitties I have lying around my work space.

Hand Sewing!

Today I experimented with hand sewing some jewels I ordered off of ebay. I really enjoy tedious work, so here are some samples I have been working on.
